BBCA is proud to announce our 2010 Specialty
The Biewer Breed Club of America will be having their 3rd annual
Specialty, in conjunction with NAKC Feb 19-21,2010 in Kissimmee
Florida.
We're happy to announce our speaker will be Jerold S Bell, DVM
DBA Veterinary Genetic Counseling.
Dr. Bell will present a 3 hour genetic health seminar between 4
and 7 pm.
The seminar will be in two parts: The first part
will be based on an analysis of a Biewer pedigree database,
registration statistics, and pedigree analysis of influential
Biewer dogs and bitches. It will discuss genetic diversity in
the breed, how the selection of mates and types of matings
manipulates the genes of the ancestors in the pedigree, and
popular sire syndrome. A question and answer period will close
this part, followed by a 10-15 minute break. The talk will cover
the different types of genetic tests, their availability, and
their proper use. It will include breeding recommendations to
manage different types of genetic disorders. A second question
and answer period will follow.
